Hatchlight Studios
Taking time to build games that go deeper
How This Started
Hatchlight Studios started from a simple frustration: too many games feel rushed, and too many good ones never make it out the door.
Projects are often shelved not because they lack potential, but because they can’t be built fast enough to survive shifting priorities, timelines, or production pressure. Depth gets promised, then quietly cut when time runs out.
Hatchlight exists to push back against that pattern. This studio was created to work deliberately, protect ideas long enough for them to prove themselves, and give games the time they need to develop real depth. Not because it’s romantic, but because it leads to better games.
The Way We Work
We work at a pace that allows people to have lives outside of their work. That means development takes longer, and that’s intentional.
We plan carefully, work in focused bursts, and leave room for family, rest, and recovery as part of the process. We believe sustainable work leads to better decisions, clearer thinking, and stronger games over time.
As Hatchlight grows, the goal is to build an equitable studio structure where contribution is visible and fairly compensated. Ownership of the studio remains centralized, but the work itself is collaborative, with pay tied to meaningful, measurable contribution rather than titles or hierarchy.
We’re more interested in building something sustainable and fair than something fast.
Our Team
STUDIO DIRECTOR
Richard Hughes
Founder of Hatchlight Studios and a lifelong game enthusiast, who believes games are at their best when they feel good to play and reward curiosity.
After spending over two decades in IT and production roles, he shifted his focus to building worlds that invite exploration, experimentation, and meaningful player choice.
Hatchlight Studios grew out of a desire to create games with heart. Experiences shaped as much by the people who play them as by the people who build them.
Hatchlight is currently a small studio, but it’s built with collaboration and community in mind.
